working on site one day per week, New York Life Insurance (NYL) is
seeking a highly talented and experienced Technical Lead to support
the modernization of our Group Membership (GMAD) business. This
role is instrumental in executing technical solutions, integrating
platforms, and collaborating with business and technology teams to
support scalable, efficient, and modern systems. NYL is uniquely

the Group Membership Insurance ecosystem. Role Overview: The
Technical Lead role is critical to delivering our innovation
roadmap. It requires a highly organized technologist with a track
record of working collaboratively as part of a cross-functional
team to deliver on projects and actively assist development teams
in building end-to-end technology solutions. The individual must
dive deep into resolving technology challenges with the teams while
also possessing the capability to provide updates to Group
Membership’s Senior Management. The ideal candidate has a minimum
of 10 years of experience in architecture, design, development, and
delivery on complex, multi-cloud, multi-provider, new platform
introductions. What You’ll Do: Understand stakeholder needs and
strategy to help develop on business roadmap: partner with product
owners and organization stakeholders within Group Membership to
understand goals, strategy, scope, and use cases to that drive the
technology roadmap. Partner with business stakeholders to create
application architecture and technology roadmaps for GMAD. Serve as
senior subject matter expert for platform and integration: leverage
use cases and a deep understanding of our platforms to develop
solution architecture and design and collaborate with enterprise
teams as applicable. Partner with business resources and platform
vendor resources to expand and share knowledge of the platform and
its capabilities. Responsible for defining how platforms integrate
to power an efficient technology ecosystem for our business. Lead
and support initiatives including CRM implementation, data
management platforms, and cloud technology. Project execution and
leadership: Collaborate with and motivate a cross-functional team
of business analysts, developers, and testers to build, execute and
release features in alignment with our roadmap. In partnership with
the product owners, drive, negotiate, and prioritize project
activities and problem solve to mitigate risks to meet business
commitments by staying on-schedule and within budget. Escalate
options to the GMAD CTO when important decisions are needed and
accountable for managing stakeholder expectations and validating
work effort and project plans. Partner with the Business User
Acceptance Testing leader to ensure quality work is deployed:
Partner with test leads to ensure testing plans ensure quality
deliverables are delivered to users. In some instances, help
support business user acceptance testing responsibilities (test
plans and use cases creation to reflect requirements which
demonstrate that deliverable meets quality standards and is ready
for field and customer use) Monitoring, quality, and transition to
steady state: review and conduct post-deployment validation and
ongoing monitoring, as needed by the initiative. Work with QA and
delivery teams, ensure consistent high-quality releases through
measurement tracking, lesson learned cadence and continuous
improvement. What youll bring: Proven track record designing
systems/applications with complexity (e.g. multiple interfaces,
multiple packages, platforms) while maintaining focus on ecosystem
simplification. Experience supporting large scale initiatives and
leading platform operations including ecosystems with one or more
common enterprise software solutions (e.g. CRM, BPM, ERP)
Experience indirect management of cross-functional teams to
effectively deliver on commitments, easily pivoting as needed to
meet shifts in business priorities. Ability to build strong
partnerships to work both independently and as a collaborative team
player who is highly proficient in working across organizations and
cross-functional teams. Ability to manage multiple initiatives with
a high attention to detail and balance the need to work
strategically versus hands-on problem solving. Ability to
effectively communicate and influence complex technical decisions
to varying audiences, including non-technical business executives,
effectively articulating pros and cons, impacts and risks. Adaptive
to changing priorities and managing multiple simultaneous
commitments on time, on budget and with quality. Strong verbal and
written communications combined with technical acumen.
Self-starter, comfortable with navigating ambiguity, and passionate
about driving change. Strong knowledge of modern Infrastructure and
Application Development practices and tools Strong knowledge of
Cloud-Enabled/Optimized practices and implications for Application
Development teams Strong SOA concepts and tools experience Strong
XML schema experience, ACORD experience preferred. Strong Java /
.NET / Web App experience Strong experience with source control
management Strong Relational Database development experience,
design experience preferred. Experience with continuous integration
tools (e.g. Jenkins) Additional Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in
IT, Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience
10 years of experience working in IT, with experience in design and
delivery. 5-10 years application development or Microservice
development experience 3-5 years platform experience in AWS Cloud
environment 3-5 years platform experience in Salesforce 3-5 years
platform experience in MuleSoft AnyPoint. 3-5 years solution and
system integration 5 years Life Insurance or Financial Services
industry experience 3-5 years Architecture experience in Data
Management, Data Quality, Data Governance, and Data Warehousing
Experience in designing and building integrations between multiple
on premises applications and/or cloud hosted systems. Strong
understanding of data Integration java design patterns & best
practices Experience working in waterfall and a scaled agile
delivery framework (SAFe) using agile software (Jira) or
equivalent.
